Simonsberg-Paarl
Simonsberg-Paarl is located on the northwest slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. This area has the coolest temperatures of the three subregions due to its higher elevation, which contributes to the production of ripe, but not brooding wines. Syrah is the most important red varietal here, where floral and spice aromatics shine. Cooler climate Pinotage is also made in a wonderfully restrained style. Chenin Blanc, Marsanne, and Viognier are the top white grapes where the best shows an intense stony mineral component.
Simonsberg-Paarl is home to Kanonkop Estate, an iconic producer renowned for its world-class Bordeaux-style red wines and its commitment to traditional winemaking practices.
