Paardeberg

Paardeberg, may at first seem unremarkable amidst the wheat fields and vineyards of its surroundings. However, this area is home to some of South Africa’s most exciting wineries, and was the birthplace of Swartland’s revolution. Celebrated for their championing of Chenin Blanc, old vines, and biodynamic farming. Embracing the spirit of the Swartland Revolution and Independent movements, these producers prioritize their role as farmers rather than indulging in flashy amenities. The wines of Paardeberg fall under two categories, with the mountain straddling the border between Paarl and Swartland districts. Rich in fynbos and home to endemic plant species, Paardeberg is also involved in various conservation initiatives, including the Paardeberg Sustainability Initiative, which has documented a multitude of plant and animal species in the area, including the Cape Leopard. Top producers here: Lammershoek, AA Badenhorst Family Wines, david & Nadia, Intellego, Wightman & Sons, Sadie Family, Leeuwenkuil Family Vineyards.
