Cape South Coast
The Cape South Coast, a recently designated wine region in South Africa, falls under the Western Cape Geographical Unit. Situated to the east of the primary South African wine production hub, the Coastal Region, it exhibits distinct features that set it apart.
Thanks to its close proximity to the ocean, the Cape South Coast excels in cultivating cool-climate grape varieties, notably Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, surpassing most other regions in the country. Moreover, the region shows promise in the production of sparkling wines.
This region encompasses six wine districts: Cape Agulhas, Elgin (known for being South Africa’s coolest wine district), Overberg, Plettenberg Bay, Swellendam, and Walker Bay. These districts collectively contribute to the rich viticultural landscape of the Cape South Coast.
