At just 29, Alice Verburg is making waves in the South African wine world—and we’re proud to import her family’s acclaimed Luddite Wines to the U.S. Alice grew up surrounded by vineyards and cellar work but initially chose a different path, earning a Cordon Bleu certificate before returning to her roots in 2016.

Despite early doubts from her father, Alice proved her passion and resilience by working across farms and harvests in both hemispheres before fully committing to Luddite in 2023. With a WSET Level 3 certification and a fearless spirit, she experiments freely in the cellar, driven by a desire to innovate and reduce waste in the wine industry.

Alice’s journey hasn’t always been easy—starting winemaking at 21 and handling marketing as the youngest in the room presented challenges, including public speaking nerves. Today, she shares her story confidently and passionately, embodying the spirit of Luddite Wines: authentic, innovative, and deeply connected to the land.

Her pride shines through in every bottle that sells out quickly, a testament to the quality and following her wines have gained. From working the vineyard to welcoming visitors in the tasting room, Alice embraces the variety and community of the wine industry with a smile.
